This crisp chardonnay is a prime example of what can be produced from 40-plus year-old vines. Delicious fruit and overtones of honey, Fui apple and apricots.
The Séamus 2013 Buena Tierra Russian River Chardonay was French barrel fermented and aged in neutral (3 year old) French oak barrels. The lees were stirred bi-weekly, intensibying the spiciness and viscosity. There is very little malolactic conversion.
The result of using these techniques is a wine that expresses the opulent fruit characteristics of the Wente clone grape. This is a full-bodied wine that embodies varietal character and flavor.
From the initial aromas of baked pear, allspice and clove through the tangerine zest, lemon curd and vanilla bean, this wine will excite the nose and palate. It is youthful, seductive and complete with spiced Fuji apple, fresh baked bread and hazelnut aromas and flavors.
